Современное и будущее состояние наиболее развитых социально-экономических систем, приходящее на смену индустриальной экономике, доминировавшей во многих странах на протяжении последних двух веков, со времени начала современного экономического роста (по С.Кузнецу). Если на этапе индустриализации главным фактором, детерминирующим экономический рост и процветание государств было промышленное производство, то теперь общая модель хозяйствования меняется. Ведущую роль начинает играть сфера услуг, или, как ее стали называть, третичный сектор.(См. Секторы в экономке). Главный теоретик постиндустриализма Д.Белл писал, что «сдвиг происходит от производства материализованных товаров к производству нематериализованных товаров (услуг)» В этой связи огромное значение придается ускорению научно-технического прогресса, информационной и технологической революции, а значит, таким сферам услуг, как образование, наука и научное облсуживание. Ведущим товаром в новой экономике становится идея – говорит российский эконом-географ Н.С.Мироненко, а ряд теоретиков постиндустриализма даже делают вывод, что это означает «конец капитализма» и переход к «обществу знания» (П.Дракер). Все это вносит принципиальные изменения в структуру занятости населения, в систему потребительских предпочтений, а значит, спроса на рынке, а также повышает требования к экологическим условиям жизни людей.

Gen Mgtthe change from a society based on agriculture to one based on manufacturing. Industrialization is the process undergone in much of the developed world during the Industrial Revolution. Features of the process include automation, scientific development, the introduction of factories, the division of labor, the replacement of barter with a money-based economy, a more mobile workforce, and the growth of urban centers. The phase of development following industrialization is the postindustrial society.
